Every deck is measured and planned for your space, levels and how you’ll use it. No off-the-shelf kits.
Prepared ground, weed membrane and a level, well-supported frame, so your deck stays solid for years.
Punctual, polite teams who leave the site clean are what our Google reviewers mention again and again.
Decking installation in Nottingham
AA Bespoke is a Nottinghamshire joinery and landscaping company. Alongside decking we build pergolas, gazebos, garden bars and bespoke furniture, and that joinery background shows in every deck: straight lines, tight cuts, tidy fascias and steps that feel solid underfoot.
We install composite decking and timber decking across Nottingham, from simple decks off the patio doors to raised and multi-level gardens with built-in seating, planters and pergolas. We also repair and replace tired decks, and several of our recent Google reviews are from customers whose rotten timber decks we rebuilt in low-maintenance composite.
We’re a limited company based in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, run by directors Alastair Goadby and Alastair Waters. If you’re looking for decking installers in Nottingham who’ll give you straight answers and a clear written quote, we’d love to hear from you.

What we do
New composite and timber decks, repairs and full replacements, all designed and built by our own team.
Grey, brown and wood-effect composite boards that never need staining, fitted on a frame built for composite and finished with neat fascias.
Pressure-treated timber decks built around your garden, from simple patio-door decks to raised and multi-level decks with seating and pergolas.
Loose boards, rotten joists, wobbly handrails or a deck that bounces. We check underneath and tell you honestly whether to repair or replace.
Choosing materials
Both make a great garden deck. The right choice comes down to your budget, the look you want and how much upkeep you’re happy with.
| CompareAt a glance | NaturalTimber decking | Low maintenanceComposite decking |
|---|---|---|
| Upfront cost | Lower. The most affordable way to add a big deck. | Higher to buy, but little to spend on upkeep afterwards. |
| Look & feel | Real wood grain that weathers to a silver-grey unless oiled. | Consistent colour with a wood-effect textured finish. |
| Upkeep | Clean each spring and re-treat every year or two. | An occasional wash. No sanding, staining or sealing. |
| Rot & splinters | Pressure treatment resists rot, but boards can split and splinter as they age. | Won’t rot or splinter, which is kinder on bare feet. |
| Lifespan | Many years if looked after, commonly 10 to 15 or more for treated softwood. | Long lasting. Manufacturer warranties are often 10 to 25 years. |
| Best for | Budget-conscious projects and a natural, traditional look. | Family gardens, pets and anyone who wants low maintenance. |
General guidance only. Costs, lifespans and warranties vary by board range, so we give you the details for your chosen boards with your quote.
How we build
When a deck fails early it’s nearly always what’s underneath: joists sitting on wet soil, too few supports, or no room for water to drain away. That’s why we put as much care into the frame you won’t see as the boards you will.
Turf and weeds cleared, levels checked and a weed-suppressing membrane laid, so nothing grows up through the deck.
Treated joists and bearers set level and properly supported, with joist spacing to suit the boards being laid.
Where a deck sits higher, posts are set firmly to carry the frame, steps and balustrades.
Gaps between boards and around the edges let water drain and air move, which is what keeps a deck sound.
Fascias, trims and steps finished cleanly, and the site swept and left tidy when we leave.

Google reviews
Rated 4.7 out of 5 from 10 reviews on our Google Business Profile.
We had quotes from three other decking firms, but AA Bespoke’s was by far the most thorough, so we went with them. The finished work is superb, they kept us updated all the way from booking to the build, and they were polite throughout.
Our old, rotting deck was taken up and replaced with composite. The job was done in two days, the lads were polite and professional, and they left everything spotless. Would recommend without hesitation.
Our worn-out wooden decking was replaced with composite in two days. The team turned up on time, worked efficiently and left the garden immaculate.
A lovely pergola and deck in my garden, plus some fence alterations. Reliable, professional and easy to work with. Refreshing to find a company that does a great job with no hassle.
Meticulous and thorough. They gave good advice and useful suggestions from planning right through to completion, and I would happily use them again.
They built us a hot tub shelter quickly and to a great standard, with no fuss at all. Everything we wanted and more.

Where we work
We’re based in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, about 11 miles north of Nottingham city centre, and build, repair and replace decks right across the city and county.
It depends mainly on the size of the deck, the material (treated timber, hardwood or composite), how high it sits off the ground, how much groundwork is needed, access to the garden and any extras such as steps, balustrades, lighting or a pergola. Composite boards cost more to buy than treated timber but need far less upkeep.
Rather than guess from a price list, we measure up and give you a free, written quote that shows exactly what is included.
Timber is the lower-cost option and has a natural look, but it needs cleaning and re-treating every year or two to stay at its best. Composite costs more up front, never needs staining or sealing and won’t rot or splinter, so it suits busy households who would rather use the deck than maintain it.
We install both and will talk you through the pros and cons for your garden on the site visit. See our composite decking and timber decking pages for more detail.
In England most garden decking is permitted development, so planning permission isn’t needed as long as the deck is no more than 30cm above the ground and, together with any extensions and outbuildings, covers no more than half of the garden. Raised decks, listed buildings, flats and some conservation areas can need permission.
We’ll flag anything like this when we see your garden, and the Planning Portal has the official guidance.
Most garden decks take a few days from ground preparation to the last board, while larger builds with steps, balustrades or a pergola take longer. As an example, two of our recent Google reviewers had tired timber decks taken up and replaced with composite in two days. We’ll give you a realistic timescale with your quote.
Often, yes. If the frame underneath is sound, loose or split boards, popped screws, wobbly handrails and small rotten sections can usually be repaired. If the joists are rotten or the whole deck bounces, a new frame or a full replacement is normally better value in the long run. We’ll look underneath and tell you honestly which makes sense. More on our decking repairs page.
Yes. We can lift and dispose of an old deck and clear the area before building the new one, and we list it on your quote so you know exactly what you are paying for.
Yes. Alongside the deck itself we build steps and fascias, handrails and balustrades, built-in seating and planters, pergolas, gazebos and hot tub shelters, and we can add low-voltage deck lighting. As a joinery business we’re happy to design something bespoke around your garden.
